The department was established in 1974. Initially, his name was "Dialectical materialism and philosophical issues of natural science." Then, it was named after the methodology of science. Over the last few years, it was under the name of "Theory of Cognition and Philosophy of Science." At present, the Department is called "Theory of Cognition".
The main scientific trends are related to the theories of cognition theories and the philosophy of science. Modern philosophical analysis of cognitive theories is the main research direction of the department. At the same time, modern scientific directions, philosophical analysis of their theoretical-practical peculiarities, philosophical problems of science and technology, methodological features of interdisciplinary approach are investigated in the department.
