The department of the return policy to Western Azerbaijan and Armenian Studies
In accordance with the implementation of Order No. 15 dated February 11, 2025, issued by the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Department of the Return Policy to Western Azerbaijan and Armenian Studies was established at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS.
The Head of the Department is Associate Professor Südabə Hüseynova, PhD in Psychology.
The main research areas of the Department of the Return Policy to Western Azerbaijan and Armenian Studies of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS include:
• philosophical and sociological analysis of the historical and social memory and cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis deported from Western Azerbaijan (the present-day territory of Armenia);
• study of the role of the idea of return to Western Azerbaijan in public consciousness, national identity, and collective memory, as well as its ethnophilosophical and ethnopsychological foundations;
• analysis of the ideological, philosophical, and psychological aspects of Armenia’s policies of ethnic cleansing and resettlement;
• philosophical and sociological analysis of Armenian national ideology and mythology;
• scientific research and exposure of falsifications of history and culture carried out by Armenians against Azerbaijanis;
• philosophical and sociological assessment of the Western Azerbaijan issue in regional and global contexts;
• theoretical substantiation of the concept of return within the framework of international law, social justice, and humanitarian values;
• analysis of socio-economic, political, and cultural processes occurring in Armenia, as well as the impact of Armenia’s foreign policy on the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Department employs 6 staff members, 3 of whom hold a PhD degree.
