Philosophy and sociology of sustainable development

Head of the Department: Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor Sakit Yahya oglu Huseynov

The concept of sustainable development, which emerged with the initiative and support of the UN, is a philosophical and sociological concept that determines the development directions of the countries of the world. Unlike other development theories, the philosophy and sociology of sustainable development covers the philosophical and sociological study of all areas of social life - human capital, living standards, poverty reduction, education, health, participation in governance, demography, migration, family and household, gender, climate change, environmental problems, culture, etc.

Taking this into account, the Scientific Council of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS decided to establish a new scientific research department called “Philosophy and Sociology of Sustainable Development” at its meeting on November 27, 2017. Since then, this department has been engaged in the study of the philosophical and sociological aspects of Sustainable Development problems, which are of great relevance for our Republic. The employees of the department have conducted many studies on topical topics covering various directions of sustainable development in our Republic, published articles on topics covering the philosophy and sociology of sustainable development in foreign countries, and promoted the directions of sustainable development carried out by our country by speaking at regional and international scientific conferences. One of the main tasks facing the department is to participate in the preparation of the project "National Strategy for Sustainable Development of Science in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2022-2030".

The department has 16 employees. They are: a professor, 2 senior researchers, 3 leading researchers, 6 scientific researchers, 2 junior researchers, 2 senior laboratory assistants. One of the department's employees carries the title of Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, and 5 of them are PhDs in Philosophy.
